The Day before Tomorrow
Preparations are well underway for our trip. I'm excited and promise many pictures a week or so afterwards. I love the outdoors and these areas appear to have some very unique and lovely landscapes. I'm not sure.... wait, no I am sure, I'm looking forward to sharing the time with Jana more than I am interested in the landscapes themselves. I've not spent a large amount of time with Jana, and I look forward to seeing what happens.
On another note, humility is indeed a virtue. I was informed today of some areas that I need to improve on. I was actually happy to hear that, because for the duration of my work here, no management has taken that much of an interest in my position as to provide feedback. When confronted with the feedback, I did not try to defend myself. I probably could have, given the time I've spent here, the additional projects I made possible, and my overall contributions. I took it without objection and every intention to correct the errors. I talked to the parties involved and let them know I acknowledge the failings, and my plans to correct them.
This went over well, and it looks like any issues I have caused should be corrected soon, provided I continue to act on the feedback and remember the lessons learned. Its sad that this seems to be a unique thing. In the time we've been at the site, we have had 5 managers go. Some of them could have been successful if they accepted and improved on their mistakes instead of trying to defend them. We have also been through 2 cleanroom supervisors for the same issue.
So next time you are confronted with a shortcoming, decide between pride and humility. Pride puts a wall up that is supported only by yourself, but it effects the interactions you have with others. Humility is an open field, which is where others would like to be, and helps you and others reach a happy place.
